A map of Crimea and the Black Sea with photographs of grain shipping, and a second map showing highlighted countries in Africa and the Middle East.

Our visual storytelling team at FRONTLINE teamed up with reporters at The Associated Press to launch a visual investigation detailing how Russia stole Ukrainian grain during the war in Ukraine. I led the visual design, mapping and animation work with support from our team at FRONTLINE.

We used mapping, satellite imagery and ship transponder data to track the smuggled grain shipments from ports in Crimea, then across the Black Sea and finally to food products in the Middle East.
